Bumblebee Jasper

Bumblebee Jasper
The stone

The sunshine stone

Not a true jasper but a sulfidic travertine: a mineral deposit laid down by volcanic hot springs around Mount Papandayan in Java, Indonesia. It's mostly calcite, banded orange and yellow by realgar (an arsenic mineral) and other natural minerals, with dark streaks of pyrite. Pieces for jewellery are usually stabilised.

Caring for Bumblebee Jasper

A softer stone that rewards a little care. Wipe with a soft dry cloth only, keep it away from water, perfume and cleaners, and store it on its own in its pouch. It naturally contains arsenic minerals, so never put it in water or drinks, keep it away from small children, and wash your hands after handling unsealed pieces.
